Wound care after reversal surgery

I have just last week had the final part of my reversal surgery and am now fully connected, (which am I very glad about) I was unaware till after the surgery that this meant I would have an small open incision/hole left where my stoma used to be. I am aware this is to allow the wound to heal from the inside out to prevent any type of infection which makes sense. It has to be re-packed and re-dressed every 2 days (something I find very distressing!). I was wondering if anyone has been in this similar situation and could share their experiences with me as i am finding it to be becoming increasingly painful each time it has to be re-packed, and am unsure whether this is just the normal healing process or whether it is a sign of infection. Today the nurse also said that she noticed the edges of the wound had become 'puckered' and I am also unsure of whether this should be happening!
any experiences with this kind of thing a tall would be greatly welcomed!

I had mine done last week too, I'm still in the hospital.

They have been changing my "packing" at least once a day but sometimes twice. They say that mine is healing very nicely. Each day I have less pain(discomfort) when they change it so I'd be a little concerned about your pain, it may be a sign of infection so you should call your surgeon's office and report it.

Congratulations I hope you are starting to feel a bit better, I was discharged on Saturday. Well mine is certainly getting more painful! I was assuming this was because it's bound to hurt especially as the stronger painkillers and anaesthetic leaves my system but maybe I am wrong. I'll see how it is when the nurse does it today and give them a call after.

I haven't required any packing for about 2 weeks now and the skin is grown over, but there was never any pain during packing or bandage changes. Everyone is different but it might be worth talking with your doc/surgeon.

Sorry I can't help with any suggestions as I haven't gone through it yet myself.

But out of curiosity, how long does it typically take for the former stoma site to heal?

Some surgeons will loosely suture the stoma site closed....not all surgeons leave it left open to heal which will take much longer. Mine was sutured closed and healed beautifully in less than two weeks time. It's really just surgeon preference as to how they like to do it.

I'm glad to say I had my packing re-done today and it did not hurt, so no worries there :) I'm curious as to how long the wound typically has to be packed for? My nurse seems unsure as to whether to leave it out when it comes to the weekend, but it will only have been a week since my surgery tomorrow.
