I had an ankle fusion surgery performed in April of this year. It failed and the hardware was removed in July. I had a PICC line installed and was on a Vancomycin IV, along with Amoxicillin 500mg, for (6) weeks in my home due to Osteomyelitis in my ankle.
An ulcer started opening up on my outer ankle. The bone is exposed and the wound measures 3.9 cm X 5.9 cm. and at its deepest, .4 cm. In the last few weeks there has been a green discharge from the wound. My wound doctor had put me on (7) days of Levaquin. I went for an appt. yesterday and there was still a green discharge. He did another culture and stated if it comes back positive I will have to be admitted into the hospital again to administer IV antibiotics.
In the mean time, I started on a wound vac at that same doctor visit yesterday. The vac is set at 125 mmHg continuous. Can anyone share their experience with a wound vac and its outcome? Also, any input about my opening statement and my infection is greatly appreciated also.
