Amanda - I'm Day 16 post-op now.
I still feel nauseous quite often, doesn't sound to be as often as you but most days I get nauseous and it lasts a while then usually passes when I lie down for a while. I'm having trouble eating too, I am eating a bit but I'm forcing myself to snack, I rarely get hungry. And I can't eat large portions either, without feeling nauseous. Are you still on strong painkillers? They could add to nausea.
I can't walk or stand for very long either. I try when I'm feeling good but then I'm wrecked for the day! I find my back hurts a lot when my stomach is especially sore, as I don't atraighten up properly & I take much shallower breaths.
My steri strips came off a week ago when in the shower, for the first day it was fine, then the wound opened a little and started oozing stuff. It didn't look infected so I wasn't worried but when it didn't stop after a couple of day, I got it looked at by the nurse in my GPs office and was reassured. My stoma nurse came the next day & felt it & said there was a small hardness, she compared it to a pimple. It then "burst" on Wednesday & has dried up & been fine since.
It doesn't hurt taking them off, a little like taking any normal plaster off a normal cut, especially if they're wet, so do it in the shower maybe. If you're worried, clean it with salt and water but they should be closed up properly.
I didn't have a drain, so have no comparison on that im afraid!
