Hi this is my first post and I love this site, it is so helpful. I was diagnosed with rectal colon cancer in February 2014 at 47 years old female and I went thru all the procedures (PET Scans, MRI chemo, radiation blah blah blah : ) I had surgery July 2014 (horrible recovery) and have a temporary colostomy.. I was looking for some help and wondering if anyone's stoma goes flat at bedtime? Because when this happens, and stuff comes out during the night, it cakes up all around the Hollister seal and gets under the seal. It's messy and I sometimes get a rash on my skin. Does this or did this happen to anyone else. Thank you.

I have a permanent ileostomy, and yes, my stoma goes flat when I lay down at night. I have asked my surgeon and WOCN about this, and they both said it is pretty normal. At night our system might be less active, and that coupled with laying down can lead to our intestines resting and relaxing a bit. I switched to a convex wafer a bit after my stoma started going flat at night, and it helped prevent the output from getting under the wafer. Might be worth a shot. Good luck!

Thank you for the information, I will definitely try the convex wafer. It just gets frustrating because it happens every night and sometimes gets real messy.. Congrats on the no more drugs, that's great, I have a long way to go. Thanks again : )
