When I woke up from my surgery, my left hand has since have a numbness to it. The doctor said it was do to how my arm was positioned doing surgery and it should eventually pass. Four weeks later and I still have the numbness as well as some pain. Has anyone had a similar problem after surgery?

I had the same issue after my 1st surgery, took me about 6 weeks before it went away.

I talked to the anesthesiologist before my 2nd surgery and he said that it happens to male patients the most frequently, something about a nerve in the left arm. I mentioned before my other 2 surgeries and didn't have that problem again.

Yup...the aftermath of surgery does take a while. Sometime I think they must have posed me funny ways for some FaceBook photo shoot!

My issue was from the NG Tube being shoved down my throat due to vomiting after surgery. It took several months for my throat to clear up. It felt as if there was something stuck in it.

You may want to have your arm look as there may have been nerve damage done if it wasn't position correctly. You would thing they could at least position your arm correctly if they are working on your butt! Physical Therapy may also help it heal too. I had PT done on my butt after surgery as I was walking funny...kinda like Learch from the Adams Family. Then I got Pelvic PT as I was fighting my GYN during my annual exam. That really did the trick! Feel good as new and it been 1.5 year since the surgery. Just had my last PT session this week. Interesting that they can perform PT from the inside!

One part of my legs was numb for awhile, Im not sure how long it was exactly but it did pass, something to do with a nerve either being trapped or affected by medication.

Did you have just a pain pump or a epidural as well?

Chronic back pain...it's been almost three years since surgery ( permanent illeo) and I'm in absolute agony most mornings ....it's painful to even put my socks on

I had that with my leg ... same reason given by doctor (position of my leg during surgery, nerve issue). Took a couple months for the numbness to go away, but it did.

I just had step 1 of 2 of my J-pouch surgery on 5/27, and my left hand is partially numb too. I also had a huge bruise on the inside wrist. It's been the least of my worries, though--had a post-op ileus and am still having issues with severe nausea.

omg i have been looking all over for you. sounds like you're having a rough time? shakehead I hope the worst is past and you're on the way to healing quickly.
