Did she say if the j pouch procedure is an option for you? If this is being done because of pre cancerous cells then it should be an option. Many people have j pouches as a result of colon cancer.
I can totally understand how overwhelming this can all be. It's a lot of information. People go on to lead active, normal lives with permanent ostomies and j pouches. The complications have to be explained to you by your surgeon because yes, they can occur but it's certainly not the norm. I lead a totally normal life with my j pouch. I work, taxi my kids around, travel, eat my fave foods, go to the gym......everything anyone else does.
I'm not sure I would want a surgeon who paints such a grim picture. I would want someone with more confidence in what they do. If this were me I would seek out a second (or third) surgical opinion. Best wishes with your decisions.
