Step 1 of 3 Jpouch completed.

I posted this in the UC forum as well but I figured it belongs here too.

It's day 3 post operation. My surgery went good and I've been handling soft foods pretty well. My heart rate is still high actually, about 130 at rest and they're trying to figure out why and how to lower it. I have the typical post pains from the surgery from the incisions and what not, can't do much movement on my own. I've been having about 3 urgencies a day to get rid of some liquid poop and blood, the same urgency that came with my UC. I guess this is normal and should go away soon. I had two blood transfusions since being here, one before surgery and one after, my hemoglobin has been up and down since being here and right now it's 7.3). I think that the doctors are just making sure that that number goes up and stays up as well as getting my heart rate controlled and then they'll probably discharge me. The surgery and digesting part of things seem to be going in the right direction.

I am happy you're doing well. You're on your way to good health :) You can expect to have some trouble from your rectum until step 2. After step 1, you still have a rectum which is still generating mucous, blood, urgency and so on - it is likely less inflamed than it was when it was connected to your colon... I feel like I got lucky because my symptoms were always very minimal after step 1, but i know some people who have had accidents from blood/mucus after step 1 - while waiting for step 2. Do not get discouraged, it gets better and it's all part of the process.
