Hypaque enema anyone?

I go tomorrow for this to check for leaks before my take down. A little nervous because I don't hold enemas of any kind in well. Anyone on here done this? How much dye is it?

Yes -- for me this was a surprisingly easy part of the pre-takedown testing. I was concerned because, like you, I wasn't able to hold in enemas well (when I had my colon and rectum). I blame this on the UC related inflammation, as I had absolutely no issue retaining this enema while they were doing their procedure with my jpouch I actually was able to slowly sit up, walk to the bathroom, sit on the toilet, make a conscious effort to relax my muscles down there, before starting to pee and release the enema without any leakage along the way. I felt like I could've stopped to have a brief conversation on the way to the bathroom if needed. If you don't have any active inflammation, you should be fine.

No idea how much dye they use...for me it was enough to fill the jpouch and the small intestine leading up to my loop ileo.

I was actually surprised by how much easier the test was than I expected it to be. Of course, mine was a pouchogram, so it's a little different than what you will have... I thought I would literally expel the liquid on the table but i didn't have a problem holding it. I guess if there isn't inflammation, it's not uncomfortable. they didn't use a ton of contrast for me. A bit went into my ostomy pouch but not a lot like I read it would be. I was reading online and people said it was so much that they had to stop to empty. Mine wasn't like that at all. The put it in really slowly, through a tube I think. I am not sure if it was an enema or how they did it. I was laying on a table and it tilted in all different directions. They checked for leaks at all different angles. They did xray from straight above, before and after. It wasn't a big deal. Nothing compared to the MRE i had prior to surgery, lol, that was crazy!!!!

Well I shouldn't have to worry about it in my bag since I'm disconnected but the abilities of my rectum do worry me. In my presurgery scope and post surgery CT I have been clear of inflammation however my GI did say I have muscle tone loss in my rectum. Most days I have no issues and can hold the little bit of mucus I have but every few days when I seem to have a lot of mucus I can barely hold it, it is a mad dash situation. I'm thinking becomes of the amount? Not sure.

I guess I'll find out tomorrow!!!! Long day for a Monday!!!
