I used to use the Eakin slim, but a while back, I ran out of them, and discovered that I seemed to have much less leakage without a ring. Lately I've had increased amount of output under the wafer -- not a lot, maybe a quarter inch or so around the stoma. Coloplast has just intoduced a slim ring -- I ordered some samples and tried one. I didn't like it nearly as much as the Eakin, I found it hard to shape, stuck to my fingers a lot. Possibly this could be avoided by wetting your fingers before handling.
But the real problem came on the next change day. It was very hard to remove the seal, and my skin was very red and quite sore, although the redness lessened a fair amount in the shower. Still redder than I'm used to. It did reduce the amount of output under the wafer, but definitely not worth it.
I've done one more change since then, and my skin is pretty well back to normal.
I never had a problem removing the Eakin; it may have been that I forgot to apply the Cavilon on the day I tried the Coloplast ring. I normally use it, and applied it when I was using the Eakin. I have another sample, I may try it again with Cavilon once my skin is completely back to normal.
What experience have others had with rings and skin preps? When I used both, I generally had output on my skin completely under the ring, but rarely beyond it.
