My son had MACE surgery 11 years ago. He uses a catheter and does a daily enema through his stoma. His stoma has always been flat until the last 6 months or so and now it protrudes about a half inch. I'm told by his ostomy nurse and the doctor who did the surgery that it's normal. Ok. However, it is bleeding as well. I was told that it's normal for it to bleed some, because of the vascular cells and to keep it covered to prevent rubbing. However, when we remove the cover, ie, band aid or cotton pad, there always blood. Not a lot, but it's there. Every day, several times a day. Is this excessive? How much and often do stomas usually bleed? Please advise.
