hey guys,

I have a loop ileo and my surgeon told me to take lomotil to keep me a bit more hydrated. I believe this am I got a blockage. I ate breakfast and emptied my bag at 10am but haven't had to empty it since even though I've been drinking a lot of fluids. I don't have an appetite. It is now 4:12pm. I have extreme pain in my lower left belly. Assuming this is a blockage due to the low / if any output. At what point do I need to be concerned about going to the hospital? I called my doctor but his nurse was clueless and he's in OP all day. Can this blockage resolve itself even after a couple of hours? If so, how?

I had one once with my loop, right before I was getting reconnected. If you have nausea and cramping along with no output, it is very worrisome. I remember looking it up online and I felt like I was on a very short schedule because it said to go to the doctor after a few hours and it had already been over an hour.

I think I took off my pouch and wafer and sat in the hot shower. When I got out, I attached a new one and made sure I cut the opening bigger - my loop was really difficult to keep covered and it always ended up leaking under the wafer after 16 or so hours. Of course, this was the middle of the night and I was crampy and miserable, expected the worst because my luck stinks. After I laid for a while, output started coming out. I was so thankful. I never emptied much during the day, but everyone is different. You know best. If you're cramping and nauseous, I would be on the safe side and go..

Well output started flowing but I have extreme pain on my lower left belly and I'm nauseous

if you start to vomit definitely go to the hospital. You can try warm drinks like tea, drink grape juice, try a heating pad on your abdomen or sit in a hot shower and let the water just run over your abdomen or back. You can also walk around a bit to help loosen things up if it's a partial blockage.

Any update, Bull? What kind of output were you getting? If it is high volumes of pure liquid, you likely have a partial blockage and your body is trying to flush it out. It is very easy to get dehydrated when this is happening. If it is regular output then give it time and it will likely pass.

I think it cleared up last night. Normal output starting flowing I'd say. I hope that's what it was because else I don't know what but it hurt pretty good and was pretty miserable.
