Post Surgery medication absorption

Hi, I am new here and recently had an ileostomy after years of battling ulcerative colitis. The surgery went fairly well and I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life. I also have epilepsy which is very controlled with medication. After the surgery absorbing my medication was a concern for me and sure enough 9 days after my surgery I had a seizure. Just wondering if anyone has ran into similar issues or has any suggestions for me. I will be talking to my doctor as soon as I can.

Is your medication delayed release? Or enteric coated? My nurse said to make sure I didn't take anything delayed release as I wouldn't get it all in time without a colon. Sure enough didn't realize my Vitamin was and I was finding a tiny undissolved piece of Vitamin in my pouch.

How is your output? If it is still relatively soon after surgery and you are having higher output or more liquid output you may not be absorbing all of it. Overtime that should improve or maybe you could ask about taking Imodium 20-30 minutes before you take your medication?

I have a colostomy...my doctors thought since it was a colostomy I would absorb most of my meds taken in pill form. Nope. For some strange reason I am not digesting any of my pills.....everything is coming out whole or partially processed. (But my food is processing pretty good.)

We changed all my meds to liquid form. My pharmacist mixes them up in a cherry flavored suspension and it works beautifully. Could your pharmacist do something like that for you?
