The loperamide slows down your intestines helping your body retain more fluid, at least that is how I understand it.
Food definitely affects output. Refined sugar or carbohydrates draw water to the bowel making output more liquid.
Soluble fiber helps thicken and slow my output and certain foods like peanut butter and cheese.
When I was feeling a little dehydrated or like my output was too liquid I would cut back The amount of sugar I was eating and eat things like oatmeal, overnight oats made with yogurt, apple slices with peanut butter, pretzels plus peanut butter, cheese and crackers, or baked potatoes or sweet potatoes or squash. Foods with extra potassium and salt help also replenish. Baked potatoes slow things down and provide good source of potassium.
I also try to drink about 64 ounces of water, more or less depending on if I've already had herbal tea, or lots of fruit because that adds to your intake. In the summer I also alternate regular water with electrolyte water.
