Hey guys...and gals...
I had a very very klutzy day......I bumped my stoma on the side of a doorway. I felt it after I hit it and then I proceeded to bump it again on a countertop. The right side developed a raised white ridge at the edge where the skin meets the stoma. It ached for a couple of days. After that it was just this raised white ridge of skin......
Then a month later...
I ate a piece of steak that was tough. Freddie started swelling up and going down, I got very nauseas, and finally I passed that piece of meat today and it was followed by watery output. I changed my wafer almost daily because Freddie would swell up so big the right side of the wafer would pinch the outside of the damaged ridge of skin.(because I was cutting the wafer big enough to allow expansion I cut it to fit on the other side of the ridge rather than the side of skin facing the stoma) Today I changed my wafer and that ridge at the bottom of it looks like it was cut by the wafer. It was bleeding. I put stoma powder on it, cut my wafer as large as it would go...I can see a quarter inch of skin around the stoma....but the eakin is covering it up.... The swelling has stopped since I passed that piece of meat.... It does not hurt right now....but
Is this something you are supposed to go in for? It seems ok now....but I am concerned because the cut looks like it is taking off that layer of skin on the right hand side of my stoma and if it does come off there will be intestine showing...
I dunno...it is the first time he's been hurt like this and it is freaking me out. Sorry for being a baby... I just don't want anything else to go horribly wrong.... Maybe it will just heal back shut and it will just be a ridge again....
So do I just wait, call the stoma nurse, make an appointment????
Any advice is appreciated!!
Clo
PS.....Another question....Can you sleep with an electric heating blanket if it lays on your stoma? Or do you use just regular blankets?
Thanks again for all your help!
