So nervous 2nd step out of 3 is scheduled for Monday ( J pouch). After my first operation in Dec removal of colon and temp ileostomy, I found it took the full 4 weeks to really recover. The first 2 weeks I was an emotional wreck crying a few times a day, I literally couldn't control it. Not sure if it was my hormones or just the feeling of being overwhelmed and losing a piece of me that did it.

Just wondering if anyone had any advise on what to do or not do after step 2 and was it comparable to step 1.

The only positive thing I am looking forward to is the removal of my dam rectum which hasn't stopped bleeding. I have been losing blood since last June so looking forward to having energy and actually keeping my blood in my body.

With the new loop ileostomy did anyone have a bar placed inside it to hold it in place?

Hey are you confident in your surgeon? Do you like hospital? My quality of life is so much better then before surgery.I took the chance on surgery and its been the correct choice.I really LET GO AND LET GOD and I'm not an ultra religious person.There will be times in life where I'm not in control of whats happening,this is one of them.I am a perfectionist with my contracting business.I want every job done to the highest standard.I feel my surgeon thinks that way.He has answered every question,he's patient,he's professional. I tell my customers that are nervous to trust me that job will come out perfect or as close to perfect as possible.I feel my surgeon thinks like me.Now do u trust your Drs??? Funny bc my rectum was a big bleeder when i had my UC but now barely any trace of blood when i have discharge from butt. Don't know why.Rectum coming out April 9th-Good Luck with everything

I had step 2 a few months ago and will have my takedown next week as well.

Personally, step 2 was harder for me physically. I had some issues at the hospital with pain (1st step was laparoscopic but 2nd they opened me up), and my ileostomy was really active so I got dehydrated.

It got better though and I could go back to work after about 2.5 weeks.

I did not have any bar in the loop ileo when waking up.

My bleeding was in my whole colon as well as my rectum I went from colitis to proctitis. I just want it gone and I do have faith in my doctor and the whole team. I am just a worrier and I hate the feeling of the unknown. This cant come fast enough.....

Im looking forward to the rest i get in hospital.I work a lot .Surgery isn't a great way to get rest but ill take it

All went well I had hardly any pain yesterday. But today it hit me pretty
hard. It’s the gas they pumped into me that is sore. I walked 5 times today With hopes of elimating the gas. The stoma nurse changed my bag and we had to wait for 15 because of the large amount of output.

Compared to your UC when u were flaring I'm sure the gas isn't too bad.Be well

I'll bet the gas pain was in the shoulder, and the output was a puke green. I remember that now. Good times. /sarc/

Glad It went well. Yea your body will adjust to the gas or at least that’s what they say! I still deal with it many months after, although not even half as bad. Keep walking and resting and you’ll be outta there in no time!

3timechamp- hospital is one way to get rest, although idk how that works bc they wake u up to take vitals and give meds and take blood. I always like to joke that hospital are the place where you’re supposed to get rest but then they never let you rest- ironic! Lol. Hope your stay goes well!

Its almost been a week just got released yesterday from the hospital. I would love to say the pain has gone away a bit but it hasnt. Taking Dilaudid every 3 hours cant wait till the fourth hour. Last night was my worst night the hospital also gave me Tylenol 3 which kept me up all night long finally fell asleep around 6:30 am. The doctor is thinking it could be the muscle tissue that is causing all the pain. They also found that I was covered in endometriosis which I had no idea I had so I was also scrapped for that. Overall its been a long week of recovery, I cant remember from the first operation how long it took to start feeling a bit better. Now I know why some opt for staying with the ileostomy and avoiding another operation. Sorry, I sound so depressed I just hate living in such pain.
Has anyone else suffered like this or did they recover quickly?

I recovered quickly, but everyone is individual. There are some people who think step 2 is the hardest, and it is really dependent on your unique circumstances. Things will get better. Did you have an open surgery or lapro? The first few weeks following any surgery are difficult. Don't get discouraged. You've made it through the worst. Step 3 is usually 1-2 hours and you're in and out of the hospital quickly. Of course, even with step 3, people heal at varying speeds.
