Surgeries always carry risks, your surgeon has outweighed that risk in favor of surgery. Your medical history and your adhesion issues would of been part of that decision.
Loop ileostomies are a real pain to deal with compared to an end ileostomy, as well as causing extra stress on your system combined less nutrient and H2O absorption they are almost impossible to stop from leaking.
I've had both a loop and end ileostomy via jpouch surgeries and I wouldn't want to ever go back to a loop ileostomy.
I'm sure you're in good hands, keep in mind adhesion techniques have improved since even a few years ago and continue to improve.
