Hello,
I just joined this today as I was looking on the internet for some information regarding ileostomy reversal.
I have visited my dad today who had an ileostomy reversal 2 years ago. He is still having a lot of difficulties and finds he is constipated all the time unless he takes lactulose and then of course he has diarhhoea and is a slave to being near a toilet!
He believes that there has been a narrowing which has caused the problem of him not being able to pass any waste without it being loose. At the time of the ileostomy reversal it was discovered that there had been a narrowing and he had to have treatment with a balloon to open it up before surgery could take place.
He is really depressed over this and quite rightly feels he should be in a better place than he is, two years down the line. But, equally is very reticent to return to his surgeon because he has lost all confidence in him and the process.
I am worried about him and would like to understand if this is in anyway common after this type of surgery? I think if he felt that this was something that was a common result after such surgery at least he would feel not quite so 'hard done by'. I would be interested to hear anyones, advice, experiences or opinions, all would be much appreciated.
Take Care, Julie
