Hello! Are there any success stories out there after having a reversal ileostomy? I suffered for years with chronic constipation, after seeing doctor after doctor, specialist after specialist, I finally found one colectal surgeon that was willing to order a series of tests to determine what is causing this problem. Unfortunately, I never did a complete research on the pros and cons of having laparoscopic assisted subtotal colectomy with ileal rectoscopy and rectopexy done, especially not knowing the complications that could occur during the surgery or thereafter such as having several blood transfusions and then emergency surgery the next day for abdominal hematoma of the right kidney. Hospital admission after hospital admission one thing after another for malnutrition and dehydration installation of a PIC Line for a Total Parenteral Nutrition feeding 14 hours a day up to the night before my reversal ileostomy.
Is it normal to lose excessive weight, lose your hair, have total exhaustion, BMs 6 to 8 times daily, hemmorrhoids after a reversal ileostomy? At what point do you start feeling better, like a normal human being? What are the chances of having additional problems after the reversal such as infection, blockage, or having to get the ostomy bag back? What is the standard recovery period in which you have normal BMs, eat regularly, have fun with family, have a beer or two no hard liquor, and work? I feel worse now than I ever felt before. Is there anyone out there that has had a reversal for more than 15 to 20 years and is doing better than before their surgery? I am depressed and worried about never feeling better again.
