An Inflamed bowel after a total colectomy?

I had a total colecctomy about 5 weeks ago.  Yesterday I woke up, changed my bag(i wear a shorter one during the day) and noticed that my stoma was bleeding and a bit inflamed.  By then end of the day all of my stoma was inflamed, bleeding, and very sore!  I know the actual stoma has no n erve endings but the perimetere of it is very tender.  I went to the ER and they said that either my Colitis has come back or it's like irritable bowel.  I just had surgery to eliminate myself of those things and my surgeon never mentioned anything about my small intestine or the part of my stoma being irritated at all...otherwise she wouldn't have made it from that part.  Is it possible that I have just irritated it from moving around too much?  We moved two days ago and I was feeling fine before then, I'm wondering if I just was up and down a bit too much.  What do you guys think?  Has anyone had a similar experience?  I don't want to have to start taking drugs like Salofak again...I am 5 days away form being off Prednisone for the first time in almost 9 months and I refuse to go back down that road....what would be the point of me having surgery to being with?  I am feeling very frustrated right now.

I would agree with Sue - UC only attacks the large intestine so if it's absolutely positive you had UC there's no way it's attacking your stoma (which is made from the small intestine) and I would have thought that the doctors would have known that simple fact.

I hope by now, the inflammation has past. It is possible you irritated it somehow and that the irritation was only temporary. I really hope you didn't do any lifting during the move esp with your surgery being so new. You do not want to risk the chance of a hernia which can be a very real possibility if lifting anything with your stoma being so new.
