pains in heels and legs - ex UC sufferer

Hi everyone - I had severe UC for 2 years, total colonectomy and ileostomy 7 July (partial colonectomy in emergency in Feb). Expecting reversal September.

I have severe pain in my heels (not the achilles tendon, the heel bone) and less severe pains in my legs generally. Anyone else have this? I heard it might be arthritis brought on by the UC (I am 49) but hoped that it would go when the colon (and UC) had gone. If I have been sitting or lying it is really painful to walk until I get things going again. Then it is less but does not go away. Thaniks for any help advice you can give.

The heel pain sounds very much like plantar flascitis, I too suffered from it after my colectomy as well as others have. I don't remember the reason but there is one. Fortunately for me I had the condition while in college and still had my custom orthotics which I put back in my shoes until the condition cleared. This is a tricky thing to treat. The most important advice I can give you is to get some type of shoe inserts that are very firm (hard). I know it seems counterintuitive, you feel as if you need something soft and squishy to walk on but that will not correct the problem. There are exercises you can try too, they can be found online.

Could it just be the normal aches and pains associated with getting older?
