All, I am so glad I have found this place. I am facing a total colectomy. They plan on removing my colon and tying my small intestines to my rectum. Unfortunately I have had several surgeries on my abdominem including removing shrapnel from my tour of duty in Operation Kuwait Freedom. Right now my colon does not work as in food, if I don't throw it up, will make it to the colon however when it hits the colon everything stops. The Mayo Clinic has tried a bowel pace maker which did nothing for helpng me so now they say now that my colon is "paralyzed" and that the best situation for me is to remove it. I can honestly say that I was scared as a 22 year old kid putting my feet down in the sand going into combat during Desert Storm one but I am scared to death about
this operation. I can only see the bad things and it is keeping me from sleep and functioning. Can anyone who has had thier colon removed shed some light and maybe any words of encouragement. Thanks all for your help and advice in advance.
Respectfully,
