Considering Colectemy... need some feedback from everyone

Hi Everyone,

I am 25 year old male that has had ulcerative colitis for about 8 years, and i think that's about as much as I can handle so im considering getting my colon.

For those of you who have had the procedure done, can you please tell me what your quality of life is now? The upside and the badsides? Id especially like to hear from men because I know that this surgery can put certain nerves at risk (i think you all know to what im refering to).

I had my colostomy when I was 28 . Though I have an ileostomy now, I had the colostomy for 15 years. I can honestly tell you that all the adjustments you make are 99% mental. Except for the first 2 months, I never put dietery or physical limitations on myself. I was and still am very active. I am a white collar professional in a position with a lot of exposure, and NO ONE in my company knows or needs to know that I have an ostomy. It's had no negative impact on my career at all. It's probably a very small percentage of men who have had a problem with nerve damage. I've visited over 100 male ostomates in hospitals over the years. None of them had a problem with "saluting the flag" either.
