colectomy decision time

I had an abdominal rectopexy with removal of half of my large bowel, and repair of rectocele and permacol implant last November, followed by a sacral nerve stimulation trial which failed in January. My surgeon had recommended colectomy, or Ace procedure, where they turn your appendix into a small stoma, and you flush it through every day using a small catheter, and a bag of liquid. I cant decide which. I feel I would like to just opt for the colectomy, but my husband says I should try Ace because its not so final. Personally I think I would still have problems with Ace, but I would be very interested in any advice/personal experiences with either, to help me to decide. Also what length stay in hospital woulod either of these involve.

I'm curious to know what they tried the sacral nerve stimulation for?  I recently had an Interstim placed mainly becasue of overactive bladder from MS but they were hopeful it would stimulate my lower bowels.  So far it hasn't helped with the constipation issues and I too may be facing colectomy.

 

I am seeing my gyn about having my rectocele repaired next week.  I posted on the total colectomy thread yesterday.  How did you do from that part of your surgery?
