Hello all, I am a newy and I have an ileostomy as a result of ovarian cancer.  Diagnosed in 2004.  Stoma seems to have changed its performanc and be a different shape and size and content is now more often than not quite liquid and leaks occasionally.  Is anyone in the same boat?   I am thinking about asking for a reversal when I see my surgeon in May.  Has anyone similar experience or any advice?

Any time there's a change in performance of your ostomy, you really should see the stoma nurse just to make sure it's nothing serious.

Thanks Moderator,  I now have a specialist appointment to see the doctor who did the op. I have said if all is well I may ask for a reversal. 

Did you not want a reversal? 

Does anyone have a view on the pros and cons of this?

Adminlady, I had Ulcerative Colitis so a reversal is not possible since the disease will just come back and attack again. There is the option of an internal pouch for those with UC who want it but when I had my surgery 31 years ago, j pouch surgery was very new. Unfortunately, my rectum and anus were too diseased and had to be removed a year after my surgery. Nowadays, they probably could have just scraped out the rectal lining and I could still have j pouch surgery but back then, this procedure was unknown, so out it all came (good riddance to bad rubbish, I say!)

Now I have a Barbie Butt (ie no holes back there - just wish it were as petite as Barbie's!)

Shaz: I had my surgery March 2005 because my rectum so involved there was not option. "Scraping" was never mentioned as an option so don't feel bad. I don't miss mine either!
