I had my first ileostomy 2-05.  It was bungled and my colon was left in along with my retum.  Also, a loop ileostomy that was left open to my colon, caused it to fill up and became a toxic megacolon.  Then my liver got involved.  9 mos. later I had a new surgeon, got a new stoma, had my impacted dead colon and rectum taken out 5/06. 

I'm doing very well now with my 2nd ileostomy.  Unfortunately, I now have some autoimmune concerns, including Chronic Epstein Virus, and I'm still being tested for others.

I just wanted to say hi.  I don't know yet how all the bells and whistles work.  When I do, I'll post my picture.  I am on another website for ostomies under my same user name.

I hope to be able to learn more and offer my experiences to the forum.  Thanx.

Welcome to Healing Well, and thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad you're doing better with your second ileostomy.

I had my colon and rectum removed in Sept '06 after being sick with Crohn's for 7 years. I don't mind having an ileostomy, because it has helped me be healthy again.

I live in SW Florida. Do you live in the Sunshine State, too?

I live in Fort Myers, but my sister lives closer to St. Pete in Palm Harbor. :-) I was up there last weekend for her daughter's birthday. We were going to go to Busch Gardens, but it was too hot. We decided to go in December instead when it's nice and cool.

Is chronic Epstein virus the same as mononucleosis, where you feel tired all the time? I hope not. sad

CEBV is gotten from mono antibodies (after having mono years and years ago) after your autoimmune system has a setback (my accident 11 yrs ago) and you are older.  I've got fibromialgia also.  So the EB virus rears its ugly head and starts attacking your body, including the liver which is not doing so well now.  You see, my ostomy is the best thing I got going (besides my blue eyes!).

Let me know when you're visiting your sister again.
