3 years after a complete colectomy

I don't see any recent posts on the ostomies section, but I'm going to try anyway.  I had a complete colectomy, and the doctor created my pouch with a section of my small intestine.  He then connected that straight to my rectum.  I had chronic UC for years and finally had the surgery in March 2004.  It took about a year to feel "normal" and trust that I could go out and eat without an emergency.  I had many blockages along the way and was pretty much hooked on opiods until about a year ago.  The opiods were to keep my diahreah to minimum.  Here is my question (I think- I'll have so many if people start to answer) - I just had a baby 9 weeks ago and had no problems the entire time.  It's been the last 3 weeks or so that I'm experiencing old symptoms again.  Abdominal cramps, urgency to go the bathroom quickly with sweats and extreme soreness around the rectum and skin.  I've experienced the soreness due to the acidic nature of the waste, but am really nervous that I'm becoming symptomatic again and need to return to the gastro doc.  I've been praising how I'm 100% healed and cannot even imagine having to start this again.  Has anyone experienced recurring symptoms after a few years?  After a baby?  I would appreciate any feedback.  Thanks

Thanks so much for responding.  I'm very new to this, I've never been on a forum or chat website.  I'm slowly learning to navigate this site and am finding new posts.

I will call my doc and go see him.  I'm overdue for a check up with him anyways.  If it is pouchitis I'll be so glad when the antibiotics calm it down.  I'd love to chat with others that have had the surgery and anyone who is thinking about it.................................Thank God for sites like this!
