I have been reading a little information about inserts.  Can I use a Convex insert with a flat wafer?  Does it have to be a Convetec wafer?  Convetec sent me an insert in the mail, but I have not used it.  I use Holister New Image and I am not sure if I can use it. I am only getting about 2 full days out of the New Image and I need to get more days out of these appliances.  I am allergic to Convetec so thier Durahesive products are not an option for me.  I have ordered some samples from Coloplast but I have not yet received them.  I do have some Eakin Seals but they are so thick.  They raise the wafer off of my skin and then the entire outside portion of the wafer will not stick.  The only part of the wafer that will stick is the part that is attached to the Eakin Seal.  When I shower, water gets behind my wafer and causes the Eakin seal to get wet.  Could this process BE more confusing? Oh well, I sure I will figure this out eventually. cool

If the Hollister is 1 3/4" (or whatever size you use) and the insert is the same, you should be able to use it. And yes, the inserts were made to use with a flat wafer, to give it a little convexity. Once you get some convexity, you may be able to also use the Eakins, which can give you even more convexity. Good luck, I hope it works for you.

If they don't work, I'm sure Hollister has a pre-cut convex flange/wafer. If your stoma isn't exactly round, order the cut size the size of the longes part of your stoma and use an Eakin tight around the stoma. You should still get a great seal.

Thanks Judy. I do have a 1 3/4 wafer. I am assuming this insert is the same size because after I read your post I put the insert in my wafer and it fit! Thanks for the info. Hopefully, this will help me get a couple more days out of my wafer.

Amey - it has increased my wear time tremendously, as you have probably already read in previous posts. Please let us know how it works for you

Do I need to cut my wafer differently when using an insert? My stoma is a bit swollen but that may be normal with insert usage. I have been wearing this wafer for 4 days and I just changed it and there are no signs of bruising...thank goodness :o)

You shouldn't have to cut your wafer any differently, but the opening of the insert should be larger than the hole you cut. Did you have any seepage under the wafer when you changed? Sounds like they're working well for you ;0)

Thank you for responding to my post.  I guess I did everything right..yippie!  My skin looks great under my wafer and I did not have any leakage.  I had 4 leakages the week prior to using the insert so this a HUGE improvement!

Amey - how's the insert working for you so far? Sounds like you might have found some success!! YEHHHHH! It sure isn't as flat as what I was used to but the extra wear time is worth it to me. What do you think?
