Wow, Slice, what made them decide to do it sooner?? You said your butt was hurting the other night, but I thought it was just from sitting at the computer too long. While they've got you under for that surgery, can they take care of the hernia, too? Keep us posted.

Noooo, my butt has never really hurt at all. The hernia has gotten worse and my doctor sees no reason i should have to sit in pain for the next 2 months.
I will say that this time around surgery seems a little more scary. Probably because when i had my colon out i really never had time to think about it and didn't really know much about it either. This time i know what to expect. Yikes.

I still have my rectum and anus, and it's been 17+ years since my first ostomy surgery.  Whether or not they can or will reconnect will depend on how much bowel you have, the nature of your disease, and your willingness to go through a "training period" of your bowel when reconnected. 

In the interim, you need to have your rectum checked routinely, which for me is whenever I have a colonoscopy, I'm already drugged so they check it out, usually take biopsies to make sure there's no displasia.

It's going to be alright. They will give you such good medicine that you will not feel much pain. That's good that they're going to take care of the hernia, too. Since you already have the ileo, you won't have to prep for surgery or have to stay in the hospital very long. I was sitting very soon after surgery and had more pain with the abdominal incision than the rectal one. Another thing to keep in mind is that you're saving yourself from possibly developing rectal cancer. Hang in there and keep your chin up. eyes

So, Slice, what's the next sport that you will be enjoying on TV during this time of convalescence?!  Just look forward to that!  You will be up and around soon after, but most importantly like Cecilia said, eliminating that nasty "C" word.   Nov 13th is just around the corner - less time to contemplate the surgery is a good thing.  Besides, you have us!  That's what we are here for.  Where else can you talk about your butt so freely?!  LOL

Yeah, nothing like a good chat about my @ss. At least it's during hockey and football season. My @ss feels fine right now but that won't stop me from watching Boston College take out Florida tonight. The only thing hurting right now is the hernia. I keep telling my wife all she needs to do is rub it and it will feel better. She's not falling for that though. I am glad it's been moved up. One, it doesn't give me all that time to think about it and two, the hernia is killing me. Time to get it all over with.

Yeah, nothin's sacred around here! I was thinking, with a hurricane off the coast of Massachusetts, I'm not sure you'll have any power to watch that game tonight. It's candles and a fire in the fireplace for you tonight. Stay safe, and hey... maybe your wife will give you that backrub afterall. :-)

Nah, i live in the central part of the state, basically just some annoying wind that is blowing the piles of leaves i made all over the place.
