I've never had a problem with them --- remember, if you can dissolve it in a glass of water, no problem! Sugar dissolves. At least that is how I know if I can eat something without any issues at all. Fiberous stuff, like those veggies and fruits, that are so good for you - well, I have to be very careful to chew, chew, chew.
I think it is the licorice that "moves things along" more quickly for me.
