looking for cloth covered drainable pouch

I recently had another surgery and my stoma is way more active than it used to be.  I have always used the closed end pouches because I hate clips and because they have a nice soft cloth cover which helps because I'm fairly active and tend to sweat.

I recently decided I should try some drainable pouches because changing the closed end is leading to more accidents in the rest room because of the high activity of my stoma. 

Anyway, to get to the point.  I don't have any of the catalogs and it's been many years since I've sold these types of supplies so I'm wondering if any of you wear the product I'm looking for. 

I wear the Convatec 2 piece system, so would prefer the snap on, 1 3/4" flange fitting pouches.  My supplier sent samples but I'm not happy with them.  First off, they have filters which DO NOT work when your output is pretty much all liquid.  Secondly, the "cloth" cover is really just a woven plastic which sticks to my skin.  I can probably get used to the velcro, roll up, openingings instead of the clips. 

Does Convatec make the drainable without the filter?  I know they used to, but even in the hospital it's all they had.  And no, I don't want to have to tape over the darn thing every time I put one on. 

Does any of the companies make a drainable with the same (or better) nice soft cover that the closed end pouch has?  I thought Hollister used to make one, and some of their products can be used with the Convatec 2 piece.

Seems like us VETS are back into the game of asking the questions... I know just where you are. Why fix it if its not broken.... well mine broke a couple of months ago (& thanks to you, I think I've got it fixed!!!) So a big thank you to you first off.

Secondly, I have always work Convatex Surfit 2 piece drainable pouches... still didn't give them up thru the last couple of months of trials and itchiness and degrading flange! I wear the 12" length and just fold the clip end up to fit inside of panties. I too have a pretty active stoma, and could NEVER even think about wearing the closed end pouches. Just too much activity to deal with that as you are finding out I'm sure. I don't find that the webbed sudo cloth side bothers me any, but once in a while when I know that I will be outside gardening or getting really grubby, I once in a while put a small thin washcloth between the pouch and my skin. But it is really, really rare that I even do that. I guess I'm just used to it by now. Yeh, it does get warm under it, but it is bound to even with a cover on it cuz, after all, you still have 2 layers of plastic that your skin cannot breathe through.

Clips - I almost forgot.... Convatec has been putting in those huge, hard to fasten clips in their boxes of pouches for quite some time now. I, fortunately, have a couple of the really old clips that were smaller and easier to clip stashed away. Not long ago, I checked with my DME provider and I still can purchase those clips from them.. (actually, I am turning in the ones that I really dislike that come with the pouches for the ones that I do like. Kinda of a trade off, but I had tons of the bigger, bulkier ones that I gave them. In turn they traded me some convex inserts someone had given back to them.) So keep that in mind --- if you don't like the clip on Convatec Surfit drainable pouches... there is an alternative. If you can't find it, let me know and I will get the # for you.

Glad to have ya back. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of surgery did you have to have done this time?

I also agree with Judy, I really like the Hollister New Image. I get the extended were flange. and the lock and roll bags. You can get them without the filter, which is a waste of time for me too.

How scary that you had to evacuate from the fires in southern CA. I'm glad that your house was okay and that you could go home so quickly. When my sister lived in Agoura Hills (north of LA and inland from Malibu), she had to evacuate once, because there were fires one mile away from her house. It was frightening. Did your in-laws ever have to evacuate?

I also hope that this latest surgery will be your last and that you'll never have a recurrence of Crohn's again. I'm so sorry to hear that you had a leak at your son's wedding. Were you the only one who noticed it? Did you have a change of supplies with you? I'm so bad about keeping extra supplies with me. I need to start doing that.

To answer your question... I use the Coloplast Assura extended wear wafer with the Coloplast cloth covered drainable pouch. They have an opaque soft cotton cover with a velcro enclosure. I have used them for over a year and have been very happy with them.

AAAAARRRRRRG!!!!! How frustrated am I?

I just talked to a Hollister Rep because the samples they sent me were wrong, and when I stated that I was going to use the drainable New Image with my Convatec flange she told me she could guarantee that it would not hold and that it would fall off. Seems that since I used to sell these things the companies decided they didn't want to be compatible so they made sure you couldn't use them together. AAARRRGGG!!!!

I like the Convatec moldable, I want a drainable with cloth panels which only Hollister makes, is that too much to ask?

Does anyone out there use the two different products? Did the rep just say that so I would switch to a Hollister wafer?

Judy ----   take a deep breath, count to 10.  We will work something out.  Isn't that what us ostomates are good at?  Figuring out what is best for us and, no doubt, thru a lot of trial and error.  Sorry your error was terrible! LOL  How frustrating when you think you have it all figured out.  What's your next step?  Any ideas?

If I was not allergic to almost everything out there and I was looking for comfort...I would use the Coloplast Assura. That is the MOST comfortable bag I have ever used. The cloth material is so nice against your skin and it feels wonderful. Also, the stool slides out nicely. I do not know what Coloplast uses inside their pouches but it makes everything nice and smooth. I encourage you to get a couple samples sent to you. You will be impressed. I have used the Convatec moldable and they are like owning a Lexus...a real luxury! I am allergic to Convatec and the only wafer my skin will tolerate is the Hollister New Image. I have to say...these two do NOT go together. Convatec does not fit on a Hollister. I believe Convatec is the only company that makes a moldable...don't ask me why! They should all makes a moldable, caps, and inserts. But NO! Convatec is the only one who makes inserts...Coloplast is the only one that makes two-piece caps, and Hollister is the only one who makes cloth wafers with tape. Why do they all have to be so different? It is annoying! If I want to wear a cap when I swim, I have to switch brands.

Judy...you always have such GREAT words of advice. I wish I had something to offer you for a change. I am sorry that I don't. I hope you find a solution to this whole dilemma.
