bad night last night

nono  THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT I HAD HORRIBLE PAINS IN MY RECTUM,I DID NOT SLEEP WELL AT ALL! IS THIS NORMAL? I COULD NOT GET COMFORTABLE IF MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SINCE MY SURGERY, IT WOKE ME UP OUT OF A SEMI-SOUND SLEEP. WHAT DO YOU DO?

Do you know if you moved a certain way and maybe that caused the pain to start? What type of pain was it exactly? Was it terrible knife-stabbing pain, spasms of pain, constant? Did taking any type of tylenol, pain med, or muscle relaxer type drug help, if that was an option? I sure hope that it has let up by now. You didn't mention if it had yet.

Most importantly, did you contact your dr's office and check in with them about this to get get their input?

PEGGY AND AMEY, I HAD SHARP KNIFE LIKE PAINS, I TOOK MY PAIN MEDS AND IT SEEMED TO HELP AS THE DAY WENT ON. I DIDN'T CALL THE DOCTOR, I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS PHANTOM PAINS, I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT HERE? THE HOSPITAL HAD NO OSTOMY NURSES, I JUST HAD THE SURGEON, AND HE WAS HOPING THAT THEY WOULD TAKE GOOD CARE OF ME. LITTLE DID HE KNOW THAT THEY KNEW NOTHING, AND EVEN SENT ME HOME WITH NOTHING, I DON'T KNOW MUCH about ILIOSTOMIES AND I WISH THIS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BUT IT DID. I HAD AN ABCESS, OBSTRUCTION, AND A PERFERATION. I HAVE HAD DIGESTIVE TRACT DISORDERS AND DISEASES FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, BUT THE CROHNS  GOT TO ME REAL  GOOD. ON TOP OF THAT I ALSO DIED ON THE OPERATING TABLE, WHICH STILL HAUNTS AND SCARES ME QUITE A BIT , AND I DON'T SLEEP WELL, BECAUSE I'M AFRAID AND SCARED TO BE FRANKLY HONEST WITH YOU BOTH. THEY SAY BEFORE WE CAME TO THIS LIFE WE CHOSE OUR PARENTS, BUT IF I  WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT ALL  THIS WAS GOING TO  HAPPEN  TO ME I WOULD HAVE RAISED MY HAND AND ASKED  DID YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME ALL OF THESE AILMENTS AND DISEASES AT THE SAME TIME? COULDN'T I HAVE CHOSEN ONE? NOT ALL. I KNOW  GOD  DOESN'T GIVE US MORE THAN WE CAN'T HANDLE, BUT COME ON NOW, PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK. I PRAY FOR MIRACLES EVERYDAY, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING TO ME, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE, AND I AM BLESSED TO KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. BLUZ

Bluz,

First, when you type in all caps and/or all bold, it's the same as screaming on the internet. I know you feel terrible but I don't think you meant to scream it all, lol.

Second, If you have this pain again, at all, I would contact a good GI. It may be "normal" but pain is usually a symptom that something is wrong.

Third, it really stinks that you had no ostomy nurse to help you. Do you have home health nurses? Do they know anything? Please ask any questions you need on here, there are no dumb questions.

How wsa your night last night.... haven't heard from you yet?

Ya know, I don't think any of us would choose any type of ostomy over good health -- but, when the alternative is feeling crappy (no pun intended) all the time and having deteriorating health at wayyyy too young, we just do what we must. I have said over and over, like a broken record, that it is an adjustment. Heck, I am even going thru some wafer adjustments right now!

Please hang in there, seek the medical advice that you can from your GI/surgeon, don't feel that any questions are too stupid to ask, and most of all, just take one day at a time right now. Be patient with yourself. It is a healing process in more ways than one - physically, mentally and emotionally. You will get there!

Hi judy, I thank you for your reply, I didn't mean to write in bold letters, I wasn't meaning to come across as screaming. I did not know thats what it meant. I now know, I'm not computer savy yet but I wil get there some how some way. I am doing alot better today,but still trying to get acustom to what has hapened to me, it wil be 6 months after my surgery on the 8th of November and I am clueles.  Ithank you  again, Bluz

Hi Peggy, its me Bluz, just thought I'd write to let you know that I am doing much better today, I don't have a nurse that I can talk to, but I feel as though that I have been given a good luck type of handshake from the doctors. so I'm really not sure who to talk to. so that is why I found all of you thank god. I left a reply on my page because I don't know how to send a message to people directly. I'm learning how to use the computer a little slow, god bless all of you, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart, this is where I seek my consults. Bluz

OHH! my son showed me some things about how to get to the chat room also, yeay!

I am so glad to hear that you are doing better today. You are more than welcome to ask us any questions and we will be glad to give you our suggestions or hints to help you. But we certainly are not doctors or professionals (let me clarify, I sure am not!).

I'm glad that you are experimenting with using the computer. There is a wealth of knowledge right at your fingertips if you are willing to do the searching for it. Good luck "surfing". Let us all know if you find something you'd like to share with us too. When I was diagnosed with CD, there were no computers for me to research my disease or even what an ostomy was. What a difference a few years have made!

Please feel free to join us in the chat room at any time. There is a topic on this Ostomies forum called "CHAT". Many times, if one of us is feeling 'chatty', we will post a quick note there and then go log into the chat room and see if anyone joins us. Sometimes we try to set up chat times in advance to meet in the chat room. And sometimes folks from the other areas of this forum, like Crohn's Disease, or Anxiety, or Migraines, joins us just to chat a bit. It can be a lot of fun. We can get pretty silly there too.
