blockage due to ileostomy

Hi, I am trying tohelp my 30 year old niece who had extensive major cancer surgery in Sept.  Due to a complication after the first surgerythey had to perform a temporary ileostomy.  Now weeks later they think she is having small bowel blockage they think due to adhesions.  Has anyone had this?  needed another surgery to unblock? can they just reverse ileostomy if had to do another surgery to help prevent further blockage? She is extremely week and thin.  We are scared.

The adhesions are internal, and yes, unfortunately each time you have any surgery you run the risk of having adhesions, and depending on where they are, they can cause pain and/or damage. The ileostomy is not the cause of the adhesions/blockage, the surgery is.

The only one who can answer your questions are your neices doctors. It's a catch 22, they may have to do surgery to fix the blockage, but any surgery to fix adhesions can cause more.

Good luck to your neice, I know it's hard, but trust her surgeons/doctors to do what's best for her, of course she should be well informed each step of the way.

Thank you Judy.  We pray that it will correct itself as she is too weak to sustain another surgery.  It has been a long 2 years for someone so young.  I pray she can come out of this and the docs know what they are doing. All that I can wish and hope for is a miracle.
