Hello. I have (had) Hirschsprungs Disease also. I was diagnosed when I was 4. I am 30 now. My HD is pretty severe. I have had 21 operations for Hirschsprungs. Including 4 colostomies and 1 ileostomy. I had my colon removed completely about
5 months ago. Had complications and a week later got an emergency ileostomy. I kept my ileostomy for a few months and got it reversed a couple months ago.
I'll be honest, for me the reversal was the toughest surgery. I have no idea why because the reversal is supposed to be minor compared to what I went through before. I was sick for about a month after I got home and had to be put back in the hospital twice. I just had such a tough time. It slowly got better though. But my story most likely will NOT happen to you. Most come through it fine. I breezed through my other 4 reversals with NO problems.
After I woke up from the reversal surgery I only had a catheter in my bladder. But no NG tube in my nose. Thank God. I had an "open" surgery. I wanted it to be done lap but I have had too many previous abdominal surgeries. Therefore it wouldn't have worked because of the scar tissue.
