feet swelling....a symptom of PD?

I am curious if any of you have had your feet swell, especially on the side where your symptoms are the worst?  My Mom has had her left foot swell even before she saw the neurologist and started meds and it is always on her left side where her tremors and ridigity are the worst.  Normally I would first assume that it would be caused by her blood pressure or heart but she just had a full physical and everything came back perfect.  She also has discoloration in her feel too and that too is worse on her left side.  Anyone else experience anything like this with PD?

Yes my left leg, foot and hand are prone to swell and it is in fact due to the rigidity. The worst thing for me are tight socks and briefs. Also beware of shirt's (tight tees) that may cut into the underarms.

It isn't always obvious like with brief style underwear for me use to cause problems because with PD it is hard to adjust one seat or re seat oneself sitting long periods in a chair, etc. well they cut into my hip / thigh and cut off circulation.

This is really bad because we need good blood flow through the mid-section aiding digestion and untrapping amino acids which block levadopa absorbtion. I mentioned diet a few times I swear by the Warrior diet.

Oh yes loose fitting but even better silky, sliding material clothes are good because as a pd'er slowly sinks into a chair or has trouble turning in bed their clothes can easily get uncomfortable.

I forgot to say beware of the obvious with keeping the mid-section flowing use the facilities often. Which can also be a task. As soon as medication kicks in care givers should get patients to pass whatever possible. And I have always found if medications are taking longer to kicking in than usual I will try to at least pee it still works like a charm saving precious minutes.

Angel ,My left foot and ankle swell.Could be the PD could be the PD meds.Socks which have a tight elastic band are deadly.If you haven't done so allready bring it to the attention of your mothers neurologist.Your mother should elevate her feet Wishing you both the best.Ed

Hi,

I am a new member & I have learned more from this forum about PD in 3 days than I have in 

5 yrs. My PD is only on my left side.  Right now I have severe swelling in my left foot & ankle & severe pain in my left knee. I also have sciatica in my left hip. I have no problems on my right side.  I was diagnosed with gout last week  (left foot/ankle) & currently under treatment.  I always suspected that the PD was causing all my leg & hip problems.  So you are not alone with these syptoms. My PD is currently being treated with requip, amanadine & sinemet.  Sinemet does raise uric acid levels which cause gout.

I just returned from Shands in Gainesville, Fl where I mentioned to them that I began recently having pain in my left foot to the point that I was limping.  They made no comment.   It was so bad today that I could barely walk.     I had no idea that our medication could cause this.  Has anyone addressed this with their neurologist and if so what was the result?  I plan to see a foot doctor this week, but I don't like the idea of adding yet another medication to the mix.  The neurologist suggested taking a stimulant to combat my sleepiness during the day and I shot that one down immediately.  Elvis I'm not.

i don't have parkinson's but i am caring for one. my friend foot is swelling due to non-movement. also, she is taking too many pills a day. what we do is range of motion every other day. her former physical therapist taught us how to. it prevents nore swelling and a little looseness of the joints. i hope this will help you.
