Is anyone currently on Azilect? If so, can you relate your experience? thanks

My experience of Azilect (rasagiline) has been positive :-)

I was diagnosed in 2000 & am currently taking Azilect (1mg daily) in conjunction with 1mg of Pergolide x 3 daily. It is a fairly new drug & has only been licensed since early 2005 for use in Uk. I have been on it for approx 6 months - it was added to extend the active 'on' time of the Pergolide & help prevent end of dose tail off symtoms. I have certainly found it beneficial.

As well as being used as adjunct therapy in moderate to advanced PD I believe it  is used mainly as monotherapy in early stages of PD when it is supposed to slow down the progression of the syptoms.

Ive previously taken Ropinerole & Cabergoline- neither of  which I couldnt tolerate due to terrible nausea, headaches & drowsiness. Azilect is thouht to be well tolerated  by most & Ive had no known side effects from it - although I have had a persistent cough which is under  investigation.

I stopped taking the Azilect for a month recently  to see if the cough was realated - it didnt appear to be, so Ive restarted it as I certainly noticed a decline in my motor skills when I was not taking it. Though I cant say it has done much to improve my tremor!!

thanks for the input. I just started taking it though it still isn't available in the US. I don't believe it has kicked in yet, I'm on my 5th day. tremor is my main symptom. I was hoping for some relief...guess I'll wait and see. Thanks again.

I have used it a couple of weeks. in line with Sinemet/sifrol, with positive feelings so far.

If I remember rightly it was about 4/5 days before I noticed the effects from the Azilect.

I'll be interested to hear what it does-if anything- for your  tremor.

It certainly helps with slowness and the  'wading through treacle ' feelings I have, but my right arm/hand  tremor is still very evident- and is a fairly new  symptom. Only suggestion I have been offered for that is deep brain stimulation- which i have declined at present,

Thanks Mayfly. 8 days so far and no difference in tremor. My Dr. suggested trying cogentin if Azilect doesn't seem to work.

I was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's.  My Dr started me on Amanadine & C0Q10.  He wants me to also take Azilect.  I have never ordered medicine on line before.  Do you order it from canada or Israel?  Any specific company you have had good service from?

I ordered through a company in Canada called Medisave. www.medisave.ca. the drug cam from Israel to Uk then to Canada then to me in California. Still only took 8 business days. I was very happy with the service...good on the phone, very professional and good prices. What is the Amanadine supposed to
do?

Supposed to help with the tremor and loosen muscles - but to be honest I don't see much change.  I am going to finally order the Azilect this weekend.

Azilect, also known as Rasagaline (at least in the US), was recently FDA-approved in the US. It is not available in pharmacies yet. Today a doctor/speaker at the Young Onset Parkinson's Network (YOPN) conference, sponsored by the National Parkinson's Foundation (NPF), said it should be available on July 17, 2006.

I wonder if I should wait or just go ahead and order it from Canada. I also wonder how long it takes to be approved by the insurance companies to be included in prescription coverage. Guess time will tell. Thanks for the update Lizzy.

OK ... another update from day 2 of the Young Onset Parkinson's Network (YOPN) Conference in Reston, VA (just outside DC) ...

On Saturday, 7/8/06, the same doc said Azilect, also known as Rasagaline, should be available in pharmacies in last August or September.

A note to Debbie M, my husband took forever to respond to the Amantadine.  At least 4 weeks, then suddenly he started feeling better.  He is also taking Mirapex.  He was dianosed in April.  Keep us updated on how the new medicine works for you if you get it from Canada.
