How do I find the best movement disorder specialists in my area?

I was diagnosed with PD in May and have been seeing a Neurologist, however, my family wants me to go to a PD specialist.

I have gone to the sites that are listed for finding a doctor but there is no way (that I know of) to tell who is the best in the field.  Does anyone know of a site that ranks doctors according to ability in PD?  If anyone can recommend a movement disorder specialist in the Dallas area I would appreciate it.  I don't live in Dallas so don't know people to ask there but that is where I will go for treatment.

My neurologist in Ft. Worth TX sent me to a movement disorder
doctor in Dallas to verify my PD diagnosis. I will list the information
below as I was impressed with the doctor. He also gave
me the name of a book which he suggests for Parkinsons patients
that I found very helpful. You can click on the links & see where
he trained, etc. He did fellowships at the Mayo Clinic.

What about attending a support group meeting and talking to folks there to get their opinions on neurologists - and movement disorder specialists (MDS), in particular? Just a thought.

 

I did a 'goggle search' and saw that the Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas has a support group. I'm not from that area and don't know anything about the support groups.

Thank you Lizzy.  I have found that there is a support group just about 8-10 miles from my home but it does not meet during the summer.  I am planning on attending the first fall meeting (September) 7.  I'm sure I can get more info there.  I have had one reply from Leoneta Good who used a MDS in Dallas and my neurologist recommended another.  I appreciate so much those of you who responded.  Hope you have a good day.  Connie  :-)

No I've been fighting this beast for 10 years now. I just now found this forum.
