cool  Everyday there seems to be another surprise with my symptoms.  As usual, went to sleep at 2am and got up at 7. This morning, my neck is having trouble moving.  The neuro says I have mild PD, but compared with who? I am also 54 and I wonder if I would be having these problems if I didn't have PD. In answer to constipation- oh yes-it's a problem. I eat alot of fruit and try to walk 2 miles a day. Hope you all have a good day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed about my disability being approved. Has anyone else had difficulties with getting disability. Sometimes, I actually look healthy.  Calming yeah

Yes, getting disability is a nightmare in itself!!!!! My husband was finally approved for disabilty after trying for 3 years and finally getting a hearing- he has parkinsons and severe depression and after ssdi approval was diagnosed with lewy body dementia, he was not approved for the parkinsons, but for his mental handicap. I am told that he would have never been approved due to parkinsons alone unless he was completely disabled by it----He was approved in october of 2006 and was admitted to a nursing home in january of 07, due to his lewy body dementia. Now the nursing hime gets his ssdi checks, what a wonderful system we have!!!

Good luck with your claim-I pray that you do not have to follow the same path we did with the goverment

Jules, Thank you for replying.  It's amazing that people making these decisions don't appear to understand that PD is extremely complex. They think it's just some shaking.  For me, the depression and the dystonia have been way worse than the tremors.  It sounds like you and your husband have been through alot.  Stress of anykind makes my symtoms worse.  Especially filling out disability papers and trying to work. Hope you have a good day. How old is your husband?  Calming yeah

My husband is 47 years old!!! Is this your first try at disability? You need to focus on the psychological and mental aspect of your conditions heavely when applying for disability. I can not stress that issue enough... How long have you been diagnosed with parkinsons and what age are you currently? You have a much better chance at disability of you are over the age of 50 . I will keep you in my prayers

smurf  Jules, Thank you for the reply and your advice.  I am taking 300mg of effexor for the depression, which is alot. I go to so many doctors. The neuro said she would sign off on short term disability because of fatigue, but not long term. My GP thinks I want to work and feels uncomfortable making decisions.  The psychiatrist thinks I should be off but has only seen me twice, so I couldn't ask him to fill out the papers.  My counselor definately thinks I should be off, but he is not an MD. I wish someone, besides me would coordinate all this. It seems like the patient and family don't really count.  It sounds like you were very supportive of your husband. My husband thinks I should be able to work until I'm 60 at least.  I feel that he doesn't understand my PD.  I really need to be off from work(I'm a special ed teacher) and in the fall, maybe work part time or sub teach. Then I can work if I feel well. Keep writing. This is a great web sight.

My husbands psychiatrist was the one that really gave the best letter for disability- the key is to have as many docs wright a letter that states: unable to engage in any substantially gainful employment- we had three letters from three different doctors stating this, our attorney told us that this was a key phrase that must be included in letter from as many doc's

as possible.....your depression can be a key factor in this process also. when you are filling out the disability papers you need to make sure that you answer all questions with your very worst days in mind...keep your chin up and be persistant-dont ever give up applying for ssdi-they want your to either give up or die on them-sorry to be so crude-but i truly believe that is why there are all of the denials and appeals for ssdi. another good resource is the governer of your state, we also got ours involved in my husbands case.
