Have you started the creatine yet?  How long is the trial bases going to be?  When did you find out you have PD?  What are your symptoms? and are you on medications? 

 

 I was told last month that I have a mild case of PD - Whatever that means, was handed some info, told to go out and enjoy life....I will be seeing another Dr in June for a second opinion.....so we'll see what happens from that.  Hope all is well with you...Cheers  tongue

Hi everyone, The creatine research study starts in April at Northwestern movement disorders center in Chicago. I live in a suburb and can take the train into the city.  I was diagnosed in June 2005 at the age of 52.  I had a foot tremor. I went to a local neuro and he gave me sinemet and told me I probably had PD and said come back in a month.. I had an MRI, which showed a dark sub...nigra and some other things. I went for a second opinion at the University of Chicago and they confirmed the diagnosis and changed my meds to mirapex.. It's been a tough period of acceptance for me. Since the diagnosis, I have had severe depression,obsessive behaviors(computer games-free cell,scrabble) dystonia, rigidity, and fatigue. I am out on sick leave and have applied for short term disability until next school year. I hope I get approved. I'm just starting to get better. I only get about 4 hours of sleep though. I joined a support group and discovered the message boards. I think both have helped me alot. Now I go to Northwestern because of my husbands insurance. They have alot of trials. You have to meet certain criteria. The creatine one lasts for 5 years. I don't know if I can be in another one at the same time, unless it just filling out a questionare. Keep writing! Fondly,Calming

HI Caming....

Nice to hear from you...I'm also having a difficult time, most times I really try and keep my head up, however there are moments I get really down....nothing I can do about it!!! SO, I really try and stay as positive as I can.

As, I said early I'm not on any meds right now. I have a tremor in my left arm with rigidity, nothing else at this time. I'm taking a lot of different vitamins and doing a lot of exercises, hoping this will slow things down. I go for a second opinion in June, so we'll see what happens then. Glad you are responding, it's good to chat with someone who understands what's going on. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sounds like two issues, both related. Mirapex is implicated with obsessive behaviors. Talk to your neurologist.
Depression is common with Parkinson's therefore get a referral from your neurologist to see a psychiatrist.
Keep your neurologist in the loop and be more aggressive about your condition - it's serious!
