starting sinemet tomorrow,nervous

I am starting sinemet tomorrow, the lowest dose of 62.5mg one per day for a week then two per day for two weeks and 3per day for a month. The jury is still out on the PD dx even though I tested positive for PD on the DAT scan.
The sinemet is a trial to see if it stops the dystonia and chorea.
I have one more acantocyte blood to be done and a ABGA has also been suggested.
I am nervous starting the sinemet due to driving and other meds taken for Crohns disease ie Pentasa, Entocort and Protium for stomach.\
Your views appreciated.

I"m sure things will be OK.....I'm sure that someone with more experice will give there views on this. Hang is there though and keep on posted!!!

Ann,You will do fine.I've been on one form of sinemet or another for 6 years,and have found little side effects to date.You need to give it a fair trial,and listen to your Dr.I do not find that it causes any driving problems with me.You know everyone is different with any given med.I'm currently on stalevo(sinemet+comtan),and I have talked to many that can't take comtan.I have no problem with it.
It is good that your Dr.is tapering you up slowly,and by the same token you can't just quit taking it suddenly.I like to take my sinemet with food,preferrably low protein,and I take a lower dose at nite.Wish you the best,and let us know how you do on sinemet.Ed

Hope you are doing ok. I have been on Sinemet for 6 years and can only say that I rely on it to help with my PD symptoms. Mine is an uncomplcated med regime because the only other drug I take for PD ( I take lots for other things) is Selegiline. I don't think I get side effects but its not always easy to say when you take drugs for other things. My only reservation is to try and keep the dosage to a minimum and I have gone nearly 18 months without an increase even though I forfeit a certain quality of life. Thats my choice and I would not try to influence others to minimise their meds against their doctors advice. Just view it as another option.
