I was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease by a neurologist in January of 2005. I was prescribed Sinemet to no avail. Six months later I was diagnosed with parkinsonism. I switched to a movement disorder specialist and Sinemet with amantadinewas prescribed  with no results. My biggest problem is lack of balance and inability to raise my right leg. I started out with a cane and after falling several times and I use a walker for stability. I have now reached a point where I fall using the walker. It seems said anything I take that relaxes the muscles in any way makes my condition worse. At present I'm taking no medication for parkinsonism. I do take Zocor, Metformin and Lisiniprol and all systems are under control. Does anyone else have similar problems to mine? My neurologist said that I do not have sufficient symptoms of any one disease( of the Parkinsons family) to make an exact diagnosis yet.

I'm sorry to what's happening to you. It's true that losing your balance is not enough to conclude that you have PD. There are a lot of neurological and neuro-degenerative diseases. You must have a thorough clinical evaluation or consult another neurologist for second opinion.

I will tell you my symptoms. Wayback 1990, I noticed that my handwriting were curly and getting smaller. Then, I was limping with my right foot.There was a slowness of movement. At first they thought that I had a stroke. But my ctscans revealed that there was no stroke. It was 1992 when I diagnosed with PD. I have taken a lot of different medications for PD. Different adjustment of medication until I'm the one who manage my medications. I felt more comfortable and maintained my independence for 16 years. I"m 53 year old now. I got the disease when I was 37. You know your body well, you know what you need and what you don't. I had a hypertension before but I din't took any medicine for this. I went to natural way of healing. I drink lemon juice and minced natural garlic. the true garlic with lemon juice and my blood pressure became normal.

I'm sorry you have pd but keep fighting. I found the key is the right movement disorder doctor. It took me 4 years to get the right one. He is big into
research and quality of life. My balance was so bad I used ski poles to walk to the barn. Sinemet works for me. I can deal with side effects.
I guess people with pd have to learn to adapt to it. I ride my horse as often as I can. The motion of the horse helps my balance. I walk better
for a few day after riding. Of course I need a good, stable horse. who doesn't care if my hands shake. I think I need to keep moving either
actively of passively( some times my great husband helps me stretch). I also use an eliptical machine.
