Hi all. I'm writing to see if others have encountered the same problem as my mother, who was diaganosed with very mild PD about
7 years ago. During the night, she becomes incapable of any significant movement on her own. She becomes rigid, lacks balance, can't turn over, and can't make it to the bathroom. She needs help with any movement. But during the day, she is active, driving her car, doing chores, and very much independent. The change in ability is dramatic.
Quick History
She is 68 years old and using both Stalevo and Requip every 3 hours, with Aleve for pain. about 4 years ago she had significant back trouble and went through multiple surgeries, with the last one completing about 1.5 years ago and taking well. Rods, screws and bone fusion in the lower back. She was practically bedridden for a year leading up to the last surgery, and she has lost all core strength in her abdomen and back, which we think exacerbates her movement problems. She lives alone but is staying with me. She is working on her strength.
We tried waking her every 3 hours over night to continue her Stalevo, Requip (wearing off syndrome?), but that is unmanageable, hard on everyone, and didn't really work. Her PD doc reconfirmed her PD is still very mild and attributes her "locking up" to anxiety/depression. Used Effexor ER for awhile but my mother fights taking it as she thinks she already takes too many pills.
Has anyone experienced this type of issue? Any guidance as to where to investigate.
Thanks for any help.
