deep brain stimulation

Any thoughts on deep brain stimulation.  My movement disorder dr.  thinks I am a good candidate.  I am scared to death thinking of having brain surgery.

I had DBS surgery in early 2001 and would do it again in a heartbeat. However I dont suggest going into without doing some homework. There are numerous qualified Neurosurgeons and unfortunately there are those who are not.  Programming of the stimulators is very important, if not done correctly problems can occur. Ask questions!!!! How many implants have you done? What is the % off improvement? what is the infections rate?.....are just a few examples. DBS is not a cure, and the disease still continues to progress, but it is  the next best thing to a cure.

 I just had the procedure done on Wednesday in Toronto. They did both sides and the battery pack in one operation. I can not believe how good I feel. Maybe I am just very lucky I don't know but, my back spasms are gone and even though my Doctor told me not to I had to cut down on my meds as I was getting over-medded or dyskinesia. I went home Friday morning. The operation was scary but I got through it. I have had a really good attitude about it and I feel that has helped me through this. I have to go to London Ontario to get my transmitters turned on and fined tuned but already I feel very significant reduction in the tremor. I am sooooo happy!!
