kaedn,
I'm glad you found this site. You said you were 'new' to this ... so I am assuming you are newly diagnosed.
How young are you? Is your doc a neurologist or a movement disorder specialist? I assume you have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Assuming all that (doc is a neuro and you've been dx with pd) ... your treatment may vary based on age and your progression at the time of dx. As stated, everyone's PD symptoms are unique and treatment plan is unique. The most important part is that you are aware of your symptoms and educate yourself in treatment alternatives - I commend you for being here for those reasons.
The most commonly prescribed category of meds for newly-dx folks are the dopamine agonists - primarily Mirapex and Requip. There are other meds that can supplement those as time progresses.
I'm also a strong proponent for exercise. I've participated in a boxing-based exercise program for people with Parkinson's for a year and a half. I'm a believer in the benefits of rigorous exercise for pwp.
Hope this helps!
