Qualifying for SSDI

For the rare bird reading this who may think that we are lazy and wanting to get something for nothing, let's be clear about this.  PD is a disabling disease.  Although we are told at the beginning that it isn't like Alzheimers, it is a neurological degeneration disease and it frequently is "like" Alzheimers.  Most of us either worked as long as possible  or they are still trying to work.  I finally retired at the first of the year although it was clear a year earlier that I needed to retire.  For financial reasons I stayed.  Whenever I asked the doctors whether they thought that I would qualify for disability they would answer "You have Parkinsons."  Now I know what they meant.  In my experience it doesn't matter what assets or other income you have.  It doesn't matter whether  you resigned, retired or were terminated.  It doesn't matter whther you can walk or not or whether both sides of your body have been affected.  I gave SSA the paperwork that they needed and I was approved in two months.  If you have had a problem getting approved I wouldn't know what the problem is, but just make sure that your doctor and your previous employer get all of the paperwork back to you or the SSA and don't give up if you have to do some of the paperwork twice.  That's to be expected.
