Deep brain stimulation

hi my names jaclyn  34 and  im here hoping i can find anyone who has had the deep brain stimulation  operation, i live in melbourne australia and am having the dbs in may or june and will admit im a tad nervouse and would love to hear from anyone who is or has gone thru with it as i have know one to talk to...hope someone sees this as its only 3 to 4 months till my op, thanku

Hi jaclyn. My name is Dalton. I just finished the DBS process two weeks ago in chapel hill, nc. As you say in Australia, no worries. Risk of infection or significant bleeding is minimal. We did have a small malfunction with the medtronic device that caused me to redo the first surgery. At UNC, they do the surgery in 2 parts. First the electrode placement in each side of the brain and two weeks later they will implant the generators that power the electrodes. I haven't quite healed from the second surgery but I am scheduled to have the unit activated on May 9th. I was completed awake for the first surgery (6 1/2) hours and for the first time in 7 years was able to feel the wonderful actually amazing affects of this god sent unit. I can't wait for May 9th.
