Hi, I pop in here and the depression site from time to time, my question, is anyone on stalevo and how well does it work? my hubby was taken to the e.r. on saturday, very slurred speech , falling to the left and terrible headache, even vomited in his sleep the night before, they did mri and catscan and found nothing , but iccu doc and nurse seemed to think  was having t.i.a's which is mini stroke, due to his symptoms, his family doc seen him this am and seemed to rule out stroke saying that he felt it was freezing due to his parkinsons disease, we have never experienced the freezing aspect of parkinsons, do all of these symptoms coincide with freezing or more mini stroke related? someone please respond

Hi Jules!

Sounds like you are having a very rough time. I hope that things will improve for your husband soon.

I do take Stalevo and I find it very effective. It is expensive and when I went to my movement disorder specialist, he suggested that I try taking Sinemet alone. I took his advice and tried to increase the dosage of Sinemet to equal what I was taking in combined form with the Stalevo. I did not work as well for me. I found that I had the "wearing-off" effect with just the Sinement and my symptoms were not as "under control."

As far as "freezing" goes, I have not experienced that, to this point. How ever I was experiencing extreme slowness of movement. A disaster in my job as I am required to type 85% of the day. So, I asked my neurologist if I could go back to the Sinemet/Stalevo combination that I had been on prior to my consult with the movement disorder specialist.

The only side effect that I have noticed, if my dosage is too high, is dialation of pupils. The Stalevo also causes orange urine. But that is no big issue in the scheme of things.

I do hope that the Stalevo will be of help to control some of your husbands symptoms.

 Jules,jbphotonut,I have been on stalevo since it was introduced,and find that it works well for me.It is a combination of sinemet and comtan.The comtan increases the effective duration time of sinemet.Since stalevo is only several years on the market it is expensive.The cost can be cut way down by taking comtan and sinemet together as many do.It adds one more pill so isn't as convenient,but is just as effective.wish you,and your husband the best.ed
