What can I take to help me sleep and relax?

I have been taking Sinemet for two years. Exercise helps me greatly. But at times I am so stressed that I can not relax nor sleep. What medications do you take for this?

I have PD, but also recently had prostate surgery.  When I came home from the hospital I was having trouble sleeping so I started taking a small dose of Benadryl before going to bed.  I never thought that I would take something to help me sleep, but this worked for me.  By the way, I also take sinemet.

Hi My Name Is Kathy Im 49 Years Old I Was Diagnosed With Parkinsons Diease 7 years ago,I Didnt want to give up So I decied to do some interesting things with my life while I still can..first I started driving a race car..(cool right) I raced against 37 guys..I did this for 3 years.but finally had to stop..I started helping with benefit dinners for cancer patients, with the karaoke people I go karaoking with..I started going to karaoke and dancing (after 20 Years) Felt Great..but now the pain and lack of sleep is almost to much...I have been on sinemet for 6 years and mirapex for 5 years and comtan for 1 year..Sometimes I hurt so bad I can hardly stand it but I must keep going..my father passed away in may from parkinsons diease and my older broth has it also...I still have a few challenges I want to do yet before its to late..my prayer and thoughts are with all of you..God Bless Each one of you.

gc,Welcome to HealingWell.As you probably know anxiety is often one of the nasty side effects of sinemet,and I also suffer from it .It seems to strike when I'm tired or under extra stress.There are effective drugs for anxiety,but you need to talk to your neurologist,and let him/her know what is going on.Best wishes to you.Ed

My neurolist gave me Xanax 0.5 MG. It works great to helps me sleep and relax. My neurolist said I could get addicted to Xanax so I should use it as little as posible.

My neurologist prescribed Elavil 50 mg. which I take in the evening. I sleep very well & fall asleep fast. This med works very well for me & it also is a pain reliever. This helps with the pain I have from gout & arthritis.

I take a Bendaryl most everynight before bed and it really helps me sleep. I am taking Sinimet, Azilect and Amantadine.

  Diagnosed 6 months ago, still in a bit of shock.   ...... New Dr. Different meds. Sinemet very gradually .

For sleep he referred me back to fam phys. I now take Zolpidem and clonazepan. Other than bathroom visit I sleep fine. Still have hand tremor worse during stress. Such as dentist. Shook like a leaf. Don't have wine with dinner any more as it makes me bump into wallls.

my dr has me taking gabapentin for sleep works pretty well

I too am having problems with my sleep.  I have difficulty both falling asleep and staying asleep.  I have been working with my neurologist to develop a successful treatment plan.  I have tried Neurontin, Elavil, Melatonin, and Benedryl with little or no success.  My neurologist then trief Lunesta and Resterol, against with no success.  He then tried Trazadone.  I now take two 50 mg tablets of Trazadone one hour before I go to bed and this has dramatically improved the quality of my sleep.  Trazadone is inexpensive and it works like a charm for me.
