PCa as a service-related disability

I just read this the other day (hadn't been aware of it before) and I thought it might be news to some other folks as well:

Based on the Agent Orange Act of 1991, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has determined that a positive association exists between exposure to herbicides and the subsequent development of adenocarcinoma of the prostate. Manifestation of prostate cancer in veterans who served in Vietnam between January 9, 1962 and May 5, 1975 is considered a service-related disability for which they should be compensated. A veteran qualifies no matter when this disease appears following a tour in Vietnam.

Just thought I would add this for any one interested.  If you file a claim with the VA and it is rated "service connected" and you are undergoing treatment you should receive a check from the VA as long as you are on some sort of treatment for the prostate cancer -  be it surgery, pills, radiation, etc.  You will get a check from the VA for the duration of your treatment and up to 6 months from when your treatment ends. You will be requested to have an exam by the VA when your treatment ends to determine the residuals of your treatment and then you will be rated on the residuals. This service connected disability is a very good thing to have if you qualify - it helps to give you peace of mind knowing if you loose your health insurance and your PC is service connected through the VA - you won't have to worry about the costs of treatments - they will pick up your care.
