Doting's Dad- Update

So, today was the last day of the 25minute radiation appointments for my dad.  He is SOOOO excited!  Tomorrow starts the 10 minute appointments and they will continue for 4 more weeks.  Yes, four more weeks.  I'm not sure why, but they decided to make the treatment 8 weeks, instead of 7. 

The side effects have been ok.  The GI side effects seem to be controlled well with Imodium.  My dad did say that he is starting to feel sore in the entire area.  After doing crunches (yes, he works out regularly), he said that his whole abs were more sore in a weird way.   The RO said that the entire area is a little inflamed and advised against doing crunches for now.  He is not off the hook for walking though :)

Chayna, That's great news and I'm cracking up about the crunches. Oh. I hope I am as in shape as your pop's to do that in my later years. I've been having so GI issue's lately but my RO thinks it's the wasabi pea's I've been eating. My bad, they go great with beer and hockey!
Tell your dad we are all keeping him in our thoughts.

It's great to hear your pops has adapted better. I've been over here just feeling for him after I spoke to him and told him it was a breeze for me. I am now fully aware the experience with cancer and it's treatments are different for everybody. One persons breeze may be anothers vortex. I did not have to take the imodium but once and I think that was because of a stomach illness. The only reasons I can think they added the additional week is because they wanted to reshape the delivery or intensity. Let your dad know that the only crunches I did were with potato chips. I walked a bunch, but i did not work out like your dad does. (Yes I'm jealous). And when you think about it, this may very well be the reason he is getting more side effects. I don't know for sure, and probably never will. But I do think about you guys all the time. Thank you so much for hanging around here and keeping your father close to us. You can also tell us about that baby that must be a gettin' big. (send Pics). God Bless you and tell your dad I'm cheering for him all the time.

Thank you all for your posts! I cracked up over a few of the comments, especially the wasabi peas. I too love them :) Tony- I will send some new baby pics your way. I have a ton from Easter. Baby boy is doing great! He will be 6 months on the 13th. What a year it has been!? God does provide when you need it most. My son is a testament to that!
My dad just received his third Lupron shot on Friday. He was not pleased about it. For other Lupron guys out there, do you get more sore each time you get the shot? My dad was really sore this time around from the shot.
What is a normal time frame for someone on Lupron to get their PSA checked? I know it is supposed to lower the PSA and not provide an accurate read, but should it be done every three months still? Thanks and hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
