I feel blessed that I found this board. I have learned so much and was prepared when my uncle's visit with the doctor on Friday did not go as well as we had hoped. My first stop after our news was here. THANK YOU so much for the immediate response!!!
I believe no matter what there is hope and ONE doctor cannot take that away. Our family has had some good cries BUT we are moving swiftly to cover all our options.
So, if you are newly diagnosed (as we our) do your research and come here if you have any questions. I have and it has helped us tremendously.
What we have accomplished in since Friday:
FRIDAY Urologist appoitment: Doctor says aggressive cancer and only choice is hormone therapy (casodex and Eligard) because of node involvement (1 that we know of but Dr. said STATISTICS show there probably is more).
Friday afternoon I post here and by evening I get information showing me otherwise (Thank You, Thank YOU).
Saturday and Sunday is spent researching and emailing to my cousin to review. Cousin emailed Bob Marchini (wrote You Can Beat Prostate Cancer) he wrote back an encouraging email.
Monday Morning: We have an appoitment at University of Penn next Monday. They said hold off on Eligard. If they want him to have they will give it to him then. All records have been sent to Fox Chase Cancer Center. They will get back within 48 hour to let us know if we should see oncologist or radiologist or both.
Tomorrow we are contacting Johns Hopkins and Loma Linda about Proton. Penn's new machine will not be used until 2009. Penn said if he is a canidate they will work with them
In the end, if we come up we the same hormone treatment I know we left no stone unturned.
